The Beatitudes...

(8 Beatitudes)

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land.

Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted

Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy

Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God

Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven

+ Hearing nuns’ confessions is like being stoned to death with popcorn.

+ An atheist is a man who has no invisible means of support.

+ The best definition of an adult that was ever given is one who has stopped growing at both ends and has begun to grow in the middle.

+ Every mother, when she picks up the young life that has been born to her, looks up to the heavens to thank GOD for the gift which made the world young again. But here was a Mother, a Madonna, who did not look up. She looked down to Heaven, for this was Heaven in her arms.

Chesterton ~ from Orthodoxy...

It is quite easy to see why a legend is treated, and ought to be treated, more respectfully than a book of history. The legend is generally made by the majority of people in the village, who are sane. The book is generally written by the one man in the village who is mad.

...Tradition means giving votes to the most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead.

...We will have the dead at our councils. The ancient Greeks voted by stones; these shall vote by tombstones.

It is all quite regular and official, for most tombstones, like most ballot papers, are marked with a cross.

Latin anyone?

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.
~~~
OUR FATHER, Who art in heaven hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Brushing up on your Latin?
AVE MARIA, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Domini nostri, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.
~~~
HAIL, MARY, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of our Lord, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

what is Canon Law?

Canon Law, the oldest continuously functioning legal system in the western world, is the internal legal system of the Catholic Church. It is founded on the juridical-legislative heritage of Revelation and Tradition and affects virtually every aspect of the faith life of some one billion Catholic Christians throughout the world. But, as Pope John Paul II explained, canon law "is in no way intended as a substitute for faith, grace, charisms (gifts from the Holy Spirit), and especially charity in the life of the Church and of the faithful. On the contrary, its purpose is rather to create such an order in the ecclesial (pertaining to Church) society that, while assigning the primacy love, grace, and charisms, it at the same time renders their organic development easier in the life of both the ecclesial society and the individual persons who belong to it."

Church laws work to preserve the freedom of the Holy Spirit. The more Catholics at all levels in the Church understand their canonical rights and duties, the more effectively they can partake in the mission of the Church, a mission born from and leading to communion with God and his faithful people.
